Job Description
Ensures that production schedules are met by moving materials and resources through departments. The planner works with the production department, purchasing and shipping to move finished products to customers. The Planner monitors the progress of the work and resolves issues that may delay shipment.
Coordinate the activities of all departments responsible for delivering products to customers on schedule. The production planner provides the production department with a work schedule and ensures that all the resources needed to complete the schedule are available.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Planning
1. Plans and prepares production schedules for manufacture of sales orders.
2. Upon receipt of a sales order, prepare a material and labor budget and tentative delivery schedule for approval of the VP/GM and inclusion in the job release.
3. Based on the customer’s need date, integrate each new sales order into the master planning document, including time phase material and labor. Prepare a schedule for each job order to establish sequence and lead time of each operation to meet or improve shipping dates according to sales forecasts or customer orders.
4. Integrate each individual job order into a consolidated master schedule, including material and labor components.
5. Analyzes production specifications and plant capacity data and performs mathematical calculations to determine manufacturing processes, tools, and human resource requirements.
6. Plans, analyze and schedule workflow for each department and operation according to previously established manufacturing sequences and lead time templates.
7. Analyzes and interprets construction bills of material, scopes, specifications, etc., to determine the content & plan manageable work elements.
8. Update plans on a timely basis as things change.
9. Planning to be done over the current month and at least 4 months in advance.
Monitoring
10. Confers with department supervisors to determine the status of assigned projects.
11. Monitors, analyzes & reports performance to schedule of production & production support activities, utilizing information derived from GRMS material and production control systems.
12. Ensures each operation meets shipping dates according to sales forecasts or customer orders.
13. Analyzes requests for maintenance/repair services & determines the validity, content & scope of requested work.
Expediting
14. Expedites operations that delay schedules and alters schedules to meet unforeseen conditions.
15. May also prepare purchase orders to obtain materials, tools, and equipment.
16. Determining the status of assigned projects, expedites operations that delay schedules and alters schedules to meet unforeseen conditions.
17. Monitors & expedites the placement of purchase orders and/or delivery of material.
18. Interfaces w/Purchasing, Engineering or Vendor personnel to coordinate the ship out of vendor material.
19. Schedules, expedites, & coordinates the delivery & movement of critical material.
20. Resolves problems utilizing acquired knowledge & analytical abilities.
Reporting
21. Prepare consolidated production reports.
22. Ensures all parties are fully cognizant of production status & that work planning and execution objectives are integrated & communicated.
23. Conducts a periodic staff meeting, focusing primarily on items that need attention. Items not requiring action need not be discussed.
